You’re Not the Wrong Shape — You’re a Piece of the Puzzle

YOU BELONG IN THE PICTURE

Inspiration for this post

This one came to me on vacation.

I wasn't in a session. I wasn't even thinking about coaching, actually. Instead, I was just sitting somewhere, watching the people around me — the way you do when you finally slow down enough to actually see.

And then it hit me. Not gently. Almost like a thought that had been waiting for the right kind of stillness to land.

We are all pieces of one enormous puzzle.

The Puzzle on the Table

Imagine a puzzle that no one has put together yet.

All the pieces are still in a pile — scattered, mixed up, none of them in their place.

Now imagine one of those pieces, still sitting in the pile, looking at its own shape and thinking: I don't fit anywhere. I'm the wrong size. I wish I looked different. Maybe if I had that other piece's shape, I'd finally belong.

It doesn't know yet that there is a place — its place — somewhere in the bigger picture.

Still, it just feels lost in the pile.

We Do the Same Thing

This is exactly what so many of us do.

We look at ourselves and think we're too much. Or not enough. Too sensitive, too slow, too different, too far behind.

We compare our shape to someone else's shape and wonder why we don't match.

But what if the very thing that feels like "the wrong shape" is actually the exact shape needed somewhere in the picture? What if you were never meant to fit everywhere — only somewhere very specific?

We are not separate, randomly scattered pieces with no relation to one another. We are part of one whole — shaped by life, by the universe, by whatever name feels true to you — into something far bigger than we can see from inside the pile.

"Okay, But Then What?"

I can already hear the next question. I hear it from clients all the time, and I've asked it myself.

Okay, so what — do we just sit here and wait for life to sort us into place?

How am I supposed to know what to do and what not to do?

How do I know what's right for me and what isn't?

How do I know what I'm meant for, so I don't miss it — especially in a world this loud, this full of information, pulling me in twenty directions at once?

These are honest questions. And they deserve an honest answer.

The Clue Was Never "Out There"

Here's the part I find genuinely beautiful.

If we are part of one whole, then we don't need to search endlessly outside ourselves to find where we belong. We need to listen — to that quiet inner pull. The thing that draws you toward something, even when you can't fully explain why.

Let me give you a simple example.

Two people stand in front of the same painting.

One looks at it and feels nothing in particular. It's fine. Nothing special.

The other looks at the very same painting and feels something rise in their chest. Wow.

Same image. Same colors. Same room.

So what's the difference?

The difference isn't in the painting. It's in what resonates inside each person. That little spark of "I love this" — that's not random. That's your shape recognizing something that fits it.

In a World This Loud

We live surrounded by noise. Opinions, trends, other people's paths, other people's "shoulds."

And in all of that volume, it becomes easy to stop noticing the quiet pull — the thing that genuinely draws you, lights something up in you, calls you toward it.

That pull is not noise. It's signal.

It's worth learning to recognize it — to actually pause and ask: Does this genuinely pull me? Or am I just reaching for it because everyone else seems to be holding the same piece?

A Gentle Reminder

You are not a piece that doesn't fit.

Nor are you too oddly shaped, too late to the puzzle, or too far from the picture.

In fact, you are exactly the shape life made you to be — and somewhere in this enormous, unfinished puzzle, there is a place only you can fill.

You don't have to see the whole picture to trust that you belong in it.

You simply have to keep listening to what pulls you.

Wishing you a beautiful day.
