Why Are You Looking for a Cookie in a Sports Store?

Child having a tantrum in a sports store asking for a cookie

Hello, my beautiful souls.

Today’s inspiration came directly from a client session.

We were working on something she deeply wants in her life — and she was struggling. No matter how I tried to gently shift her perspective, the response was always the same:

“Yes, I understand… but.”

“Yes, that makes sense… but.”

“Yes… but.”

So I asked her if I could share a story.

She smiled and said yes.

The Cookie in the Wrong Store

Imagine you’re standing in a sports equipment store with a small child.

Suddenly, the child starts screaming: “I want a cookie! I want a cookie!”

You look around.

There are running shoes.

Yoga mats.

Weights.

Water bottles.

But no cookies.

The child keeps insisting.

“I want a cookie!”

And you’re thinking… there is no cookie here.

So what’s really happening?

The desire itself isn’t wrong. Wanting a cookie isn’t wrong.

But you’re in the wrong store.

When We Want Something That Isn’t There

This is what we sometimes do in our own lives.

We want love in an environment that cannot give it.

We want validation from someone who is not capable of giving it.

We want peace while staying in constant chaos.

We keep saying, “I want this.”

But we don’t pause to ask: Where am I?

Is this the right place?

Is this even available here?

Sometimes the frustration isn’t because what we want is impossible. It’s because we are searching in the wrong environment.

Pause Before You Push Harder

When you notice yourself pushing, insisting, forcing — pause.

Take a breath.

Ask yourself: Am I in the right store?

Is what I’m asking for even here? Or do I need to change where I’m looking?

Sometimes growth isn’t about trying harder.

Sometimes it’s about changing the store.

Wishing you a beautiful day.
