This one came from a walk with my husband.
We started talking about something that comes up again and again, both in sessions and in everyday conversations — why is it so hard for people to actually understand what "working on yourself" really means?
So we went looking for an answer. Just walking, thinking out loud, testing the idea against real examples.
Because here is something curious.
So often, someone genuinely wants to change something in their life. You tell them exactly what to do. They do it.
So is that inner work?
Yes. And also, no.
There is a kind of not-knowing that is simply honest.
You don't know what to do. You don't know what your next step is. You don't even know, yet, what you actually want.
This is a different kind of exploring altogether. It's not avoidance. It's genuine searching — trying things, noticing what pulls you, paying attention to what resonates and what doesn't.
And once you find it, once you land, in whatever way, on something you want, the next step is simple to name, even if it isn't easy to take.
You go and do it.
Here is the part that changes everything, though.
The only way to actually move forward is to move.
It is not enough to know what you need to do. Not until you actually do it. Until then, it stays exactly where it started: as an idea.
And an idea, on its own, doesn't change your life. It doesn't move you forward in any real way, even though it can feel like it does.
You can feel like you know so much. And still be standing in exactly the same place.
This is where the real question begins.
And for me, this is where actual inner work lives.
You already know what to do. You already know which direction to go. So the real question is no longer what.
The real question becomes: What is holding you back from actually doing it?
Because real inner work, the kind that isn't just theory, is the process of discovering what is holding you. And then, slowly, honestly, removing it.
Step by step. Day by day. Until you move through it.
If you don't know your next step, pause for a moment and notice what pulls you.
Then go and try it.
Whether it was the right step or not, you will only know once you've actually taken it.
But if you already know what you need to do, and you still haven't done it, that is where the real question waits for you.
Why haven't you done it yet? And what is actually holding you?
And here is something I always come back to.
Please, don't theorize your way around it.
If your mind tells you, "I can't call them; they need to call me first," that is exactly the moment to notice what's happening. It isn't a real reason. It's a story that keeps you comfortably still.
So instead of explaining it away, pick up the phone. And call.
Because that is the whole difference between knowing and living it.
And if you want it in three words: just do it.
Wishing you a beautiful day.
Choose a card and see which one finds you next.
A different story each time.
Hi, I'm Davy Jerončič, founder of Be Truly Empowered.
I created Be Truly Empowered to offer a safe and supportive space where people can slow down, reconnect with themselves, and better understand the patterns shaping their lives.
I believe that lasting change doesn't come from fixing ourselves—it begins with awareness. When we learn to understand ourselves with curiosity and compassion, we naturally gain greater clarity, self-trust, and confidence to move forward.
Through my writing, coaching, and upcoming book, I hope to help people reconnect with their inner wisdom and create meaningful, lasting change.
Every article on Be Truly Empowered is personally written by Davy Jerončič and reflects her own experiences, observations, and approach to awareness and personal growth.
