Let me try to explain something that many people experience when they start changing their life. You decide that something in your life needs to change.
You begin to see patterns you didn’t notice before. Maybe you have an aha moment where you suddenly understand what has been holding you back.
For a moment it feels powerful. You feel clarity. You feel like things finally make sense.
And sometimes you even think: “Now that I understand the problem, it should be solved.”
But then something interesting happens.
A few weeks later you suddenly feel confused again. Maybe even lost.
You start wondering: Why am I feeling like this again? Didn’t I already understand what the problem was? Why does it feel like I’m moving backwards?
In reality, this is something very natural.
Because understanding something intellectually is often just the first step in transformation, not the end of the process. And this is where an analogy helped me understand what is really happening.
I once heard an idea explained as the River of Change. I believe it was mentioned in one of the retreats of Joe Dispenza, and the metaphor stayed with me.
Over time I started imagining it in my own way.
Picture two riverbanks. On one side is your old life. The familiar patterns. The habits you know. The version of yourself that you have been for years. Even if that life was not fully aligned with who you truly are, it is still familiar.
And because it is familiar, it feels safe.
On the other side of the river is your new life. A different version of you. A life that is more aligned with who you are becoming. New possibilities, new ways of thinking, new ways of living.
But between these two banks there is something important. There is a river. And that river represents the process of transformation.
The moment you decide that you no longer want to stay in your old patterns, it is as if you step into that river.
And this is where many people become uncomfortable. Because once you are in the river, you cannot fully see the path anymore. Maybe there is fog.
Maybe the water is deeper than you expected. You cannot see exactly where your next step will land.
Sometimes the current feels strong and pushes against you. Sometimes you bump into stones.
Sometimes the water is calm and you move forward more easily.
And sometimes you feel unsure, because you simply don’t know what is waiting for you on the other side.
But that uncertainty does not mean something is wrong. It simply means you are in the river.
As human beings we like certainty. We like to know what will happen next.
We like guarantees that our effort will lead somewhere better. But transformation rarely gives us that kind of certainty.
When you are crossing the River of Change, you usually do not see the whole journey.
Most of the time you can only see the next step.
And sometimes not even that clearly. But that is how the process works. You move one step.
Then another. Then another.
And slowly, even without realizing it, you move further away from the old bank and closer to the new one.
Sometimes, when people are in the middle of this process, they feel like nothing is happening.
They feel stuck. But what I often tell them is this:
If you are questioning your patterns…
If you are becoming more aware…
If you are trying to do things differently…
Then you are not standing on the old bank anymore. You are already in the River of Change.
Even if the progress feels slow. Even if the water feels uncomfortable.
You are still moving.
The most important thing in this process is surprisingly simple.
Just take the next step you can see. Not ten steps ahead. Just the next one.
Stay aware.
Stay open.
Listen to your intuition. And keep moving.
Because when you continue taking step after step, eventually something happens. You reach the other side.
And when you finally cross the river, you may realize something unexpected.
The life waiting for you there is often something you could not fully imagine while you were still in the water.
It’s different. It’s broader.
And it reflects the person you have become through the journey itself.
So if you ever feel uncertain, confused, or lost during your transformation, remember this:
You are not going backwards. You are not failing.
You are simply in the River of Change.
Take the next step. Trust your intuition.
And most importantly— trust the process.
