Don’t Waste Your Energy: The Train of Change and Why Not Everyone Will Join You

Train moving forward symbolizing personal growth and life change journey

Inspiration for this post

Many people experience a powerful shift when they start their personal growth journey. But something unexpected often happens during this process.

The people around them don’t always understand the change.

This explanation was inspired by one of my clients who started transforming her life and mindset. After a few sessions, she began to see new possibilities and opportunities opening in front of her. Before that, she felt completely stuck. She described it like running in a hamster wheel — moving but not really going anywhere. But when she started making real changes in her life, things slowly began to shift.

However, something made her feel sad.

She tried to explain her transformation to her mom, her boyfriend, and her friends. She wanted them to see how powerful this change was for her.

But they didn’t understand. They were not supportive.

So she asked me something many people ask during personal transformation:

How can I convince them to come with me?

Personal Growth Means Stepping on the Train of Change

When she asked me that question, an image came to my mind.

Imagine we are in the Wild West and there is a train.

The moment you decide that something in your life must change, you step onto that train.

Sometimes walking slowly is no longer enough. You want something to move faster. You want life to start changing.

So you get on the train.

And that train represents your life change and personal growth journey.

At the Beginning, Change Moves Slowly

At first, the train starts moving slowly.

Choo choo… it begins to move forward. And as it moves, you move with it.

While moving forward, you start noticing new opportunities and new perspectives that you couldn’t see before.

This is something many people experience when they begin working on themselves.

But this is also the moment when an important realization appears.

Not Everyone Will Join Your Transformation Journey

When you step onto the train of change, people around you still have their own choices.

They can decide:

  • to move forward,
  • to stay where they are,
  • or to take a completely different path.

The difference is that you already made the decision. You already have momentum.

But they might not feel that push yet. And that is something we need to understand during personal growth. Everyone has their own timing.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is simply continue our journey and allow people to see the change in us over time.

When we truly live our transformation — when we become the embodiment of it — others may start noticing that something is different. And sometimes that can create a small spark for their own change.

Not because we tried to convince them, but because they experienced the change through us.

At the same time, it is important to understand this from a place of love.

Often people are not trying to be unsupportive. Many times they simply don’t understand what is happening yet.

We already started walking our path, and they may not see or understand that path right now.

And that is okay. Everyone is moving in their own way and in their own time.

Why You Cannot Force People to Change

Once your train starts moving, it continues forward. And if people are not on that train with you, you need to let them stay where they are.

This can be one of the hardest parts of transformation.

Many people try to pull others with them. But forcing change usually drains your energy. And that energy is something you need for your own journey.

If life creates the right situation, those people might join your train later. Maybe they will meet you somewhere along the path.

And if that happens, you will be happy to see them. But you cannot stop your journey while waiting.

During Personal Growth, You Meet New People

Something else happens when you continue moving forward. You start meeting people who are on a similar path.

People who also decided to grow, change their mindset, and move forward in life.

Many of them also had to leave some people behind — not because they wanted to, but because their paths became different.

And that is a very natural part of transformation.

Feeling Sad Is a Normal Part of Change

One important thing I always say is this: It is completely normal to feel sad at the beginning.

When people you love don’t support your change, it can hurt.

But after some time, it becomes important to remember something very simple: You are already on the train. So use the opportunity. Look around.

See what life is opening for you now. You can still send love and good wishes to the people who stayed behind.

One day, they might find their own train too.

Emotional Attachments Can Drain Your Energy

When you are on the train of change, many opportunities appear.

But if you stay emotionally attached to what you left behind, those attachments can take away your energy.

And this is exactly what the title of this message is about. Don’t waste your energy.

Instead, use this moment to slowly release what is holding you back emotionally.

Not because you stop caring.

But because you want to experience what is opening in front of you.

Life Sometimes Brings People Together Again

Life has its own way of reconnecting people.

If it is meant to be, you might meet again:

  • at another stage of life
  • at another opportunity
  • at another “train station”

But not at the same place where everything started. And that’s perfectly okay. Because growth means movement.

The Beauty of Life and Personal Transformation

Life is full of opportunities.

We are here in this human experience to explore them, not to stay stuck in the same place forever.

When we move forward, things change.

And sometimes, when others start moving too, our paths cross again.

That is part of the beauty of life and personal growth.

So beautifully said, and so true. I love your train analogy, I could visualize myself on my journey. Thank you my friend.
